More growth for downtown Augusta? Tech-savvy co-working space opens doors

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A new co-working space downtown has officially opened its doors. SharedSpace offers people a place to work by themselves, or with others.

They offer huddle rooms for one to two people who may want to work alone or board rooms for 12 people, and conference rooms that can hold up to 120 people.

Brad Williams, company general manager, moved from Atlanta to open the doors here in Augusta.

"With all of the economic growth that's been going on here, with all the Cyber and then Fort Gordon, we decided that if we were going to move outside of Atlanta that Augusta was going to be the best choice for us," said Williams.

People can have their own offices and even hold events at SharedSpace.

"It's catering typically to your tech-savvy crowd and your entrepreneurs and what we call solo-preneurs but we get a full range of every type of business in our space," said Williams.

The new space, on the corner of Greene Street and James Brown Boulevard, is just a block from downtown's main corridor.

"It's only a block off of Broad Street, and a lot of walking traffic, most of the people drive by this area, so its very visible. We get a lot of exposure and we wanted to be very close downtown," said Williams.

It's businesses like SharedSpace that are helping bring back all of downtown by fixing up buildings outside of the ones on Broad Street.

"I think what this projects going to do is gonna give this corner a 24/7 feel because you're going to be able to access the space 24 hours a day," Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Margaret Woodard said.

Woodard said they like to call the growth on Greene, Reynolds, and other areas downtown "connecting the dots."

"It even goes further over to Telfair Street, there's construction now on the corner of 12th and 11th on Telfair so we are seeing the effects go towards Walton Way," said Woodard.

Williams and his team at SharedSpace are excited to be a part of the growth.

"It's just a very cool part of town, and I think this space is a perfect fit for what Augusta is becoming," said Williams.
