Parents of twin siblings killed in Kentucky fire being treated at Augusta hospital

Authorities say twin siblings are dead and their parents were seriously injured in a Harlan County fire.

KSP confirmed at around 6:30 p.m. Monday night that the twin 3-year-olds were found dead inside the home. The children were previously unaccounted for.

Kentucky State Police responded to the fire on Ky. 522 in the Totz community around 11 a.m. Monday.

The husband and wife were airlifted to an Augusta, Georgia hospital with life-threatening injuries. Troopers identified the couple as Dennis and Allyson Howard. The couple owned the home where the fire occurred.

Troopers are awaiting word on the Howards' conditions from the hospital in Augusta.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
