SOUTH FULTON, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta-area police are searching for a masked gunman who carjacked a teacher outside the elementary school where she worked.

It happened at Heritage Elementary in South Fulton shortly after 6 a.m. Monday.

News outlets report police said the teacher had just parked when a gunman demanded her keys. The teacher wasn't hurt, but she lost her car — a white, 2015 Dodge Challenger.

Police later found an abandoned Impala at a business across the street from the school. Investigators determined it had been reported stolen out of Atlanta and now they're trying to determine if it's connected to the carjacker.

The school's principal says school police will now stagger their shifts to make sure an officer is on duty during the early morning and late into the evening.
