PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University men's basketball team played the UNC Pembroke Braves on Wednesday night and won a 72-69 Peach Belt Conference thriller in the English E. Jones Center.

Augusta senior Deane Williams had double-digit points in the first half and finished with a team-best 24 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Williams went 9-for-11 from field-goal range and hit both of his three-point attempts. Jaguar freshman Miguel Arnold hit four three pointers and a pair of free throws to total 14 points and freshman Tyree Myers added nine points, three assists, and two rebounds and steals. Senior Tyvez Monroe, junior Rafael Monteiro, and freshman Darren Lucas-White each had six points, while freshman Robert Barlund blocked three shots for the Jaguars.

Augusta trailed 34-32 at halftime, but shot 46 percent from the floor to UNCP's 34.0 field-goal percentage. The Braves grabbed the early edge by out-rebounding Augusta 24-16 in the first half.

With 1:50 remaining, Myers hit a layup to lift the Jags on top 69-63. UNCP hit a three pointer with 32 seconds left to get within three points, but Arnold got to the free-throw line on the next possession and made two shots. After Monteiro made one of two free throws later on, the Braves buried another trey to make it 72-69, but Augusta dribbled out the ball to expire the clock and win a big conference game on the road.

The lead changed six times and there were nine tied scores in the contest. Each team matched 30 points in the paint and 20 second-chance points, but Augusta had 10 fast break buckets to UNCP's two.
