RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Demonstrations in Richmond turned violent Tuesday night, resulting in damage to several city buildings.

8News’ Ben Dennis reports that the James Center, Sun Trust and Wells Fargo buildings all sustained window damage after demonstrators roamed city streets.

Emergency response crews also responded to John Marshall Courts building for several broken windows.

On Wednesday, Mayor Levar Stoney reacted to the damaged caused to the building. He said that the money that could be used to help people in the community will now be going towards fixing the 22 windows that were broken.

For the course of the last 60 days, we have had a number of conversations with people who demonstrated in a peaceful manner,” Stoney said. “There is a small percentage of people who have chosen to go another way.”

Stoney said that those that choose to go the wrong way will be taken into police custody.

“You will go to jail. Period,” Stoney said.

According to Stoney, the Richmond Police Department will investigate and will make more arrests. On Tuesday the police department arrested four people and charged them with rioting.

Stoney added that anyone participating in riotous behavior will be charged with all applicable offenses.
