RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities say a teenager was shot dead overnight in Richmond’s East End.

Just after 11 p.m. Sunday, an officer was notified by individuals that a body located between buildings in the 1900 block of Raven Street.

Richmond Police identified the body as 17-year old Yishawn Robinson.

Thomas Jefferson High School sophomore, Spirit Bunn, told 8News she lost her childhood friend, who she called Yaya.

“I was just in shock like I literally just spoke Yaya a couple days ago. This couldn’t be true,” Bunn said. “He would have a smile on his face or making somebody else smile.”

Bunn and Robinson first met in elementary school. This year, both were in the same band class.

“But I could hear his conversations,” Bunn said. “He was always making somebody laugh in the background.”

Bunn said Robinson loved basketball and could be found dancing in the hallways at school often.

“It’s always the funny people that make you laugh and happy that die or, it’s just horrible,” she told 8News.

Bunn said she has been struggling since the news came out. She does plan on helping other students who are also mourning the loss of Robinson.

“He was great. He was very funny. And I can understand their pain, how much they’re going through. And I just honestly want to be there for them because losing somebody and you know they cannot come back that is not a feeling that you want to have.”

Detectives the shooting is related to a shooting two hours earlier in the same block of Raven Street, police said.
