RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Public Schools (RPS) students can apply to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) for free.

RPS spokesperson Kenita Bowers said in a news release Thursday that the one-time service fee has been waived for RPS seniors because of a new partnership with between RVA Future, RPS Education Foundation and Common Black College Application (CBCA).

Students will now have the opportunity to apply to any number of the colleges and universities on the CBCA without paying the fee.

“RPS students complete an average of 3-5 college applications during their senior year,” said Tracy Brower, Program Manager for RVA Future. “This is a great opportunity because it helps to alleviate the financial burden of applying to college while expanding the types of schools our students are applying to.”

The CBCA is currently being accepted until April 2019. Students interested in applying should see their Future Centers Director or school counselors for the CBCA waiver code.
