RICHMOND, Va., (WRIC) – A Richmond man is fighting for his life after getting shot outside a Southside motel Sunday evening, according to a police source. 

Sources say shortly after 8 p.m., Richmond Police officers were dispatched to Midlothian Inn in the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike. 

When officers arrived, they found a man shot in the stomach at the hotel. 

Police confirmed Monday that the victim, who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, was shot while trying to stop the suspect from robbing his girlfriend. 

According to Richmond Police, the suspect is a black male with dreads believed to be in his mid-20’s. The suspect was wearing a blue zip jacket and blue jeans during the shooting, police said.
