RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — In the City of Richmond, all priority 1 roads have been plowed and treated.

Fifty crews are working on side streets and that is where the trouble spots are. For instance, 8News spotted City plows out in Church Hill.  Broad Street, the main drag is pretty clear. However, just off the beaten path on 25th, 26th Street, M Street and Venable, it was treacherous travel.

Yet, the snow-covered streets didn’t seem to stop Richmonders from venturing out.

“I thought as long as I had this none snow shovel, we got some ice down here,  I figured I help out the dog walkers a little bit and give them a clear path,” says Church Hill resident Chip Coutts.

He recently downsized to a condo and did away with the snow shovel. However, with a garden shovel in hand, he was still coming to the aid of his neighbors.

Coutts was not the only city resident 8News spotted making do and trying to dig out from this record Richmond snowfall.

“Just a broom, nothing sophisticated. We’re from Florida. We don’t have the tools for the job yet,” said Evan Galvicka as he helped clear off his girlfriend’s car.

All this white stuff an unusual but welcomed sight for the Floridians.

“Yesterday, kind of like a winter wonderland out here,” he told 8News.

In the Fan Monday, 8News spotted a lot folks on foot.

The narrow sides streets there are tough for plows to navigate and still covered in snow. Most residents seem to be taking it in stride.

Gene Wilkinson said, “Like you would expect these small side streets, there’s no way you can plow them. They would plow all the cars, the snow would build up aside them. You have to go with the flow.”

A visitor from San Francisco found the record snow to be magical.

Jim Box told 8News, “It’s beautiful. Of course we don’t get anything like this back there.  So yeah, it’s gorgeous. I”ve taken a thousand pictures this morning.”
