MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A capital murder trial is underway for a Montgomery man charged in a deadly Thanksgiving day shooting in 2015.

Steven Varnado is charged with five counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder.

Sherika Packer, 24, and Anthony Packer, 34, were killed in a home on Endicott Drive in southeast Montgomery on Nov. 26, 2015. They left behind a young daughter.

Authorities say neighbors got into a fight and someone threw boiling macaroni and cheese on another person. Varnado reportedly left the house and came back later opening fire.

A third person was also injured in the shooting. He suffered a gunshot wound to his right hand.

Co-defendants Kelly Varnado and Donte Cooper have not been to trial.
