RICHMOND, Va. – There are now 86,994 cases of the coronavirus in Virginia as of July 28.

Tuesday’s total of 86,994 marks an increase from Monday’s total of 86,072 cases.

  • 83 new cases in Prince William County
  • 76 new cases in Portsmouth
  • 65 new cases in Henrico County
  • 54 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 46 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 35 new cases in Norfolk
  • 32 new cases in Richmond
  • 30 new cases in Chesapeake and Chesterfield County
  • 26 new cases in Suffolk and Prince Edward County
  • 25 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 24 new cases in Henry County
  • 22 new cases in Hampton
  • 20 new cases in Arlington County
  • 16 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 15 new cases in Newport News
  • 14 new cases in Alexandria
  • 12 new cases in Stafford County
  • 10 new cases in Spotsylvania County and Rockingham County
  • 9 new cases in Manassas, Tazewell County, Fredericksburg and Nottoway County
  • 8 new cases in Bedford County, Charlottesville and James City County
  • 7 new cases in Prince George County and Harrisonburg

As of Tuesday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 1,157,924 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
