Highway 321 reopens after diesel truck crash in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A 5-mile stretch of Highway 321 in Lincoln County has reopened in both directions after a diesel truck crashed and tipped over Saturday morning, officials said.

The crash, which happened around 4 a.m., had the highway closed for several hours between exits 28 and 33. All traffic was being rerouted through Maiden.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office told Channel 9 the driver had to be cut out of the truck before he was airlifted to a hospital.

Officials said the driver was talking before being airlifted, but his condition is unknown at the point.

Deputies said about half of the 7,700 gallons of diesel from the truck spilled out.

Authorities are investigating to find out what caused the crash.
