CMPD: Man charged after 18-year-old shot to death in southeast Charlotte parking lot

CHARLOTTE — An arrest was made Friday after a teenager was shot and killed on Aug. 5 in southeast Charlotte.

Officers responded just after 3 p.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call on Wallace Lane at Independence Boulevard, just south of Idlewild Road.

Jarele Blackson, 18, was found in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Montico Ny’ke Baskin Peoples, 22, was arrested and charged for the murder. The Rock Hill Police Department and SLED assisted with the arrest.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene and could see several CMPD cruisers in the parking lot, which was roped off with crime scene tape.
