"You know when veterans come back, they don't come back looking for it, but they certainly do appreciate it," said Ron Schall of Honor Flight Pittsburgh.
The veterans spent the day in our nation's capitol seeing the memorials that were built as a tribute to their service. The veterans even got a police escort into town.
"This has been awesome all day long. All the places we went, all the fellow veterans, they were great," said veteran DeWayne Shorts.
The veterans served in Vietnam, Korea and even in World War II. Seeing the memorials brought back a flood of memories for the veterans.
"This brought everything to an emotional head tonight for me. I cannot be more grateful to this organization for what they did for me," said veteran George Pikoulis.
After a long day and a long journey home, there was one final salute. Community members gathered to greet them and thank them one more time.
"People are trying to thank us, but we did our jobs," said World War II veteran Joseph Zlad.
The trip cost $20,000 and it was paid for by donations to Honor Flight Pittsburgh.
