Target has announced plans Tuesday to open its first small-format store in Connecticut next year.

The new Target store will be located at the Bishops Corner Shopping Center in West Hartford

A first of a kind target is going into Bishops corner in West Hartford. They’re going to take all the things in the big store and shrink it down to just the bare essentials. Food. clothing, beauty and hygiene products will be presented in more of a boutique way, giving target shoppers a little bit more of what they’d like.

Erin Ely is excited about it.

“I was literally going to go there tonight, but it was all the way across town, so I went to marshals which is also great, but I love target!”

Target is now going into the space Walmart just vacated. This experimental boutique store will be one of two main anchors in Bishops Corner along with Marshals. Something the Town Manager says will continue economic growth.

The retailer says that nationwide they are opening small-format stores to reach new guests in urban areas, dense suburban neighborhoods and near college campuses, where a full size Target may not fit.

“As we continue to reach more guests across the country, we’re excited to open our first small-format store in Connecticut to provide a convenient, one-stop shopping experience for families and residents of West Hartford and surrounding towns,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target, in a press release.

The store will bring 75 new jobs to the area.

This Target will offer the same type of items they do in a full-size store such as a food and beverage selection, apparel and accessories, health and beauty items, home essentials, seasonal merchandise, electronics and toys.

They will also have Order Pickup, where customers can order online and pick up in a store within the hour.

This small-format Target store is projected to open in 2019.

This will be the seventh Target in the Hartford area and the 21st in Connecticut.
