WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — Windsor Locks police, along with a SWAT team, responded to a hotel Tuesday afternoon after a man threatened to kill himself while on the phone with doctors at a Tennessee Hospital.

Around 12:54 p.m. on Tuesday, representatives of a Veteran’s hospital in Tennessee told Windsor Locks police a 53-year-old man and military veteran who is suicidal was possibly armed and was presumably in town for work.

While doctors were on the phone with the man that afternoon, he repeatedly threatened to kill himself.

Officers found him at the Candlewood Suites on 149 Ella Grasso Turnpike.

Police and SWAT contained the situation to the man’s hotel room and guests in neighboring rooms were evacuated.

Police were able to establish contact with the man and he eventually surrendered without incident.

The man is now in the hospital for psychiatric evaluation and further treatment.

Police are still trying to determine if the man had a gun. No charges are expected at this time.

There is no danger to the public.
