Mississippi unemployment near historic low

The number of jobs held in Mississippi is at an historic high and the unemployment rate is near a record low.
The Mississippi Department of Employment Security says in August the number of non-farm jobs in Mississippi rose by 4,000 to 1,169,500, which is the most jobs ever recorded in the state. These job numbers are based on a survey of employers.
Mississippi's unemployment rate in August was 4.8%, the fourth lowest level of unemployment ever recorded in Mississippi.
The August rate is the same as a month earlier in July 2018 and two-tenths of a percentage point lower than a year ago in August 2017, when the rate was 5.%.
