Columbus murder suspect taken into custody in Phenix City

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A Columbus murder suspect was apprehended by authorities in Phenix City Thursday evening.

According to the U.S. Marshal’s Office, Jermaine Robinson was wanted by Columbus police for the murder of 32-year-old Jeremy Robert Sewell who was shot and killed in the 4100 block of 16th Ave in July. Robinson was also wanted for aggravated assault.

Additionally, Robinson is also charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

U.S. Marshal’s were called to assist in the case after authorities received a tip that Robinson was staying in a nearby hotel. Robinson was detained by Phenix City law enforcement, with the help of a K9 unit. He was found lying in a creek near AJ’s Sports Bar on Highway 280 and was taken into custody.

Robinson is being held in the Russell County Jail. Sheriff Heath Taylor says Robinson went before a judge Thursday morning. He’s being held on a $3,500 bond for the charges of receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. Robinson is being held as a fugitive from justice without bond.
