Man arrested for crimes during Richmond riot

RICHMOND, Va. -- A man has been arrested for several crimes committed during a riot in Richmond and on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus last month.

Richmond Police say they have arrested 20-year-old Lucas Couturier with help from information received by the community.

Couturier was arrested on Wednesday, August 12 at an apartment located in the 600 block of Hull Street. He was charged with misdemeanor arson and Felony conspiracy to commit a riot in connection to a night of rioting on July 25 and morning of July 26.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department has also charged Couturier with several crimes committed on the VCU campus that same night.

VCU Police has charged Couturier with two felony counts of destruction of property and two felony counts of inciting a riot.

Extensive property damage on VCU's campus included 80 windows broken in a dozen buildings and numerous buildings tagged with graffiti.

President Michael Rao said damage to the campus is estimated at more than $100,000.
