TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After two days of interviews, city commissioners in Tallahassee have picked their new city auditor.

This comes after the retirement of former city auditor Bert Fletcher.

The decision was unanimous. Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey and the four commissioners all said that without question, that person should be Dennis Sutton.

Sutton is an army vet and has worked with the city for about 20 years. He moved here in the 1990s to attend FSU after an honorable discharge.

Sutton's new position will oversee seven employees, including six other auditors.

Mayor Dailey said it's important for the city to hire the right person and he feels Sutton is it.

"He's been a part of the management here at the City of Tallahassee. He brings stability. He brings knowledge of the organization," said Dailey. "He brings knowledge of the auditing process. We're not going to miss a beat, he's a fantastic choice."

The next step, negotiating a contract. That will happen at the next city council meeting on June 19.

If for some reason things don't work out, commissioners also filed a motion to go with Monica Houston as their second pick.
