TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - For nearly two decades, the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger has supported the Mark Vogter Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, tournament proceeds provide improvements, new advancements, and today many of the athletes got the chance to check out the unit's new home.

"It's great to know it's more than just a tennis tournament," said 2018 Champion Noah Rubin. "It's going to help people and seeing a place like this, to see where the money is going too, all the incredible technology, from the elevators to the rooms, I mean they have everything spot on. It's really incredible."

A part of the new MT Mustian center, which houses 28 operating rooms with leading technology and 72 patient rooms in the ICU, this facility will have a big impact on this community.

"We always find that the players are very interested in whatever is going on," said Karen Vogter, the Tournament's Director. Her husband Mark is who the center is named after. "I think this is a great opportunity for them to find out that our tournament are about much more than just tennis, you know it is about supporting the community and when they come here I think it's nice for them to know that, I think it makes them feel like what they are doing is that much more special."

It's a special week for the guys, the chance of course to win a title, but to also continue to make the Capitol City, a better place.

"Yes they are competing, yes they are warriors out there on the court but they are also making a substantial contribution to the equality of healthcare," said Nigel Allen, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Foundation's President. "That's a tremendous gift, that we're very grateful for, and it's wonderful for them to come here and see firsthand how their support is changing lives."

Changing lives and making this community better, one day at a time.
