Tennessee Revolutionary War veteran to get headstone on grave
A Tennessee chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will place a headstone on the grave of a Revolutionary War soldier.
The Kingsport Times News reports the marker is for Pvt. Michael Looney, who participated in a precursor to the Revolutionary War known as Lord Dunmore's War, as part of the Virginia militia.
State of Franklin Chapter President Don Hills says Looney is still considered a Revolutionary War veteran. Looney moved to an area east of Rogersville in 1780.
Hills says chapter members will hold a ceremony with uniformed color guard in period dress at the Looney Family Cemetery near Surgoinsville on Sunday.
The State of Franklin refers to an attempt to create a new state in what is now East Tennessee at the end of the Revolutionary War.
