Update: Wednesday, July 15th: Birmingham police have obtained a murder warrant in the homicide of Larry Pettway, 70 for Brandon Parker, 36 of Birmingham. Court records show Parker was arrested days after the homicide of Larry Pettway in Jefferson County on unrelated charges out of Tennessee. He was held in the Jefferson County jail from June 9 - 17th, before being transferred to another facility. After detectives in the Pettway homicide presented information gathered in that case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, BPD obtained a murder warrant for Brandon Parker for the death of Larry Pettway. Upon his release from Tennessee, Parker will be transferred and held in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 bond for the murder of Larry Pettway. Records do show Parker has a Birmingham address. Update: Saturday, June 6th: The Birmingham Police Department identified the victim as Larry Pettway, 70, of Birmingham. The BPD says it appears shots were fired from a nearby area, and Mr. Pettway was caught in the crossfire. There are no suspects in custody at this time.A homicide investigation is underway in southwest Birmingham after a shooting left one dead Friday night.According to the Birmingham Police Department's Twitter feed, West Precinct officers responded to a call of a person shot on 17th Street SW and Jefferson Avenue around 8:45 p.m. Friday.
