FEMA helps families forced to evacuate Wilmington apartments

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Temporary sheltering goes into effect today for residents housed in locations deemed disaster areas.

After many residents were forced to evacuate from The Glen apartments, FEMA brings over 30 team members to help residents find immediate housing.

“These are people who had not gone to a shelter and weren’t initially identified as individuals who couldn’t live in their home [but] that has changed so all the disaster assistance personnel and individual assistance are descending here on this area so we can help out all these people that are now going to have to evacuate,” said FEMA Spokesperson Rebecca Kelly.

Kelly says when applying for FEMA resources your zip code helps identify if you are located in a critical disaster zone.

FEMA says once you apply for assistance a counselor will contact you to learn your specific needs and set up an immediate plan.
