Gang-run brewery announces plans for Wilmington facility

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — They say it’s more than just a brewery. Plans submitted to the City of Wilmington reveal a daycare, a gym, a studio, and much more could be coming at the future site of TRU Colors Brewery.

According to the company’s website, TRU Colors is a business employing active, rival gang members coming together to stop gun violence.

The idea was born in June 2017 when 11 gang leaders from the Bloods, Crips, and Growth & Development (a gang once known as Gangster Disciples), came together.

Online records show TRU Colors holdings bought the property at 715 Greenfield Street in Wilmington this month. They paid $950,000 for the building and three acres of land.

Plans call for a 6,000 square foot restaurant, outdoor stage and entertainment area, and covered seating.

The plan goes before the technical review committee October 31.
