For the second consecutive year, the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts conducted a service blessing journalists.
The noontime service at Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield was devoted to the memory of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. He was murdered at the Saudi embassy in Turkey last October.
The Right Reverend Dr. Douglas Fisher, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese told 22News that journalists often risk their lives sharing the truth with the public.
“So many times reporters have literally lost their lives or lost their freedom,” Bishop Fisher said. “So we celebrate life and we take that as an inspiration.”
The Episcopal Diocese named WGBY Connecting Point host Carrie Saldo to receive the first Bishop’s award for journalism excellence.
Saldo recently gave birth and couldn’t attend the ceremony; Her colleagues accepted the award on her behalf.
