SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Gas prices in western Massachusetts have risen significantly in the past week.

Now that it’s spring and temperatures are beginning to rise, so are gas prices. According to GasBuddy, Springfield gas prices have risen nearly 5 cents per gallon in the past week.

22News shot video of gas prices in Springfield and Ludlow. Both met the western Massachusetts average of gas prices at $2.58, but those gas prices may continue to rise.

According to Gas Buddy, the rise of these gas prices isn’t expected to let up due to the lack of summer blended gasoline on the West Coast.

Pump Price Patrol 

Due to the shortage, gas prices may be more than $3.00 per gallon by the end of the month.      

“I’m at the pump once a week,” Adam Czerwiec said. “I put in $30 a week to fill up my tank. I’m at $120 a month right now, it adds up. Now I could potentially be looking at $200 a month, I can’t afford that.”

Prices in western Massachusetts are 15 cents higher than a month ago. 

“We see this every year, just before Memorial Day we always get that hike,” Tony Perla said.  “It’ll drop then come back up just before 4th of July weekend, we’re pretty used to it.”

The national average price of gasoline has risen 7 cents in the past week to $2.83.
