CRRC will unveil new MBTA rail cars at their Springfield manufacturing facility next week.

The Chinese-owned CRRC said they will be rolling out the first pair of next-generation rail cars for the MBTA’s orange line on Tuesday.

CRRC’s $95-million manufacturing facility on Page Boulevard in Springfield has been in operation for the last two years.

CRRC has an $843-million contract with MBTA and has been building orange line cars for them for the last eight months.

Their rail car manufacturing project led to the creation of hundreds of new jobs, many of which were given to local residents.

“I think its very good that the state has a progressive company working with them,” said Ron Gauthier of Springfield. “They are bringing in business and doing something good here.”

CRRC said they plan to eventually build 152 orange line cars and 252 red line cars at their Page Boulevard site.

CRRC is the world’s largest supplier of rail transit equipment.

CRRC said they will unveil the new rail cars inside the facility at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
