The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts took to the ice Saturday night to kick off their cookie-selling season.

The Girl Scouts teamed up with the Thunderbirds for a cookie rally at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

Saturday’s event was meant to help teach the girls some of the skills they’ll need to sell cookies when they start taking orders this week.

The Girl Scouts cookie season is an annual program that helps young girls build leadership skills. All the money raised will stay right here in western Massachusetts.

Pattie Hallberg told 22News, “They’re learning about goal setting and they’re learning about planning. So, they’re really running their own business, so they need to understand what they’re selling. They need to learn about the cookies, they need to learn where and how they’re going to sell, and they need to know why, and why is about goal setting.”

The Girl Scouts ended the night by cheering on the Springfield Thunderbirds.
