SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – As businesses across the state begin to discuss the re-opening of phase 2, Springfield Mayor Sarno along with several city leaders provided a COVID-19 update Monday morning at City Hall.
Today marks the ninth anniversary of a deadly tornado that led a 40-mile path of destruction through western Massachusetts at 4:38 pm. A moment of silence took place before the meeting began to pay respects to those who lost their loved ones, and those who were killed during the tornado. A moment of silence was also given to George Floyd who was killed by police in Minneapolis.
In terms of COVID-19, there were 29 positive cases reported on Friday, 20 on Saturday, and 18 on Sunday. Sarno confirmed there is a total of 2,400 COVID-19 cases in the city of Springfield and 101 reported deaths.

- 3 officers are out regarding COVID-19
- 3 officers left the department to assist the national guard
- Friday’s protest went well and remained peacefully
- Clapprood expressed the department is just as frustrated as the protestors regarding the death of George Floyd

Superintendent of Springfield Public Schools Daniel Warwick
- Over 95,4908 meals distributed during COVID-19 pandemic
- 17 local sites available to pick up meals
- Central High distributes meals on Friday
- The program will reach a million mark of meals distributed this week
- 8 virtual graduations will be held this week on FOCUS Springfield and the public school’s city website
