SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Gas prices are rising across the country and residents were in western Massachusetts are feeling the effects.
Massachusetts gas prices have risen nine cents in the past week, according to AAA. Prices are 20 cents higher than they were last month and are continuing to rise. This is bad news for local businesses that earn money using gasoline.
22News spoke with Stephen A. Roberts Landscapes about how they adapt to rising gas prices.
Stephen Roberts owner of Stephen A. Roberts Landscapes said, “We try not to leave machines run idle for the day. If the machines not being used shut it down and try to do as much work as we can in as less time as possible.”
Not only is the rise in gas prices impacting business owners, but it’s also affecting local drivers as well.
Beyonn Blye said, “It’s kind of annoying because gas is already expensive as it is and the more it goes up the more it’s affecting people pocket from doing basic living so that’s annoying but I guess it’s something we have to deal with.”
The price of gas nationally is averaging around $2.84 which is up 22 cents from a month ago. According to Gas Buddy, as of Monday, the cheapest price of gas in the country is $2.10 per gallon while the most expensive is $5.19 per gallon.
The national average price of gas is almost nine cents higher than it was a year ago.
