After all the snow we’ve had recently, and the up-and-down weather this winter, many locals are looking forward to a warm spring. 

The current spring seasonal forecast shows no strong overall pattern of too hot or too cold. 

Long-term forecasts are broken down into three possibilities when it comes to temperatures and precipitation:

  1. Below
  2. Close to
  3. Above average

Right now, the forecast is pointing toward average temperatures and near-normal precipitation, that includes both rain and snow.  

A not overly-cold and snowy forecast is good news for people who are getting sick of shoveling and driving through the snow. 

Spring officially starts on March 20th, and many locals have been dreaming of it since the first day of winter. This winter has been relatively mild compared to some in the past, but it doesn’t take much snow for people to be waiting for a warm-up.

“I don’t want to see a lot of rain, I don’t want to see too much more snow,” Laurie Sharac, West Springfield

 “Mostly on the warm side. With this frigid cold and the vortex really dropping this year,” explained Chicopee local Earl Watt.

For Springfield, the average high temperature:

  • March is 47 degrees
  • April is 62 degrees
  • May, the normal high jumps to a comfortable 72.

Many times it snows in March when we typically average nearly nine inches of snow. 

Spring weather won’t be arriving this week. We’re looking at a potential wintry storm Wednesday night into Thursday.

The next spring seasonal forecast update will be released Feb. 28.
