WTNH – A World War Two veteran in Massachusetts has finally received his purple heart
94-year-old Francis Byrne was wounded when a landmine exploded in 1944.
Dozens of veterans were in attendance for the ceremony.
“It’s something you can’t really imagine because it was so long ago. I never thought it would really come true”, Byrne said
Byrne was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
He said filling his award case with the purple heart was his final mission.
