Saturday Sports: Beaver River football beats Frankfort Schuyler

BEAVER FALLS, N.Y. (WWNY) - A big Section 3 Class D football battle in Beaver Falls Saturday afternoon as the Beaver River Beavers hosted Frankfort Schuyler in a match-up of the top 2 teams in Class D. The Beavers came off a tough 31-28 road win over the Thousand Islands Vikings last week in Cape Vincent.

Beaver River scored on the game's first series as quarterback Sam Bush took it in from 5 yards out on the keeper. Score: 7-0 Beavers.

Frankfort Schuyler answered on their first possession. Jeffrey DeSarro tossed a 5 yard touchdown pass to Joseph Parrotta, putting Frankfort Schuyler on top 8-7. Still in the 1st, Tyler Rosati finds an opening outside and takes it in from 11 yards out. Frankfort Schuyler ups its lead to 16-7. Beaver River comes back and beats Frankfort Schuyler 43-38.

Turning to the soccer field, a Girls' Frontier League contest in Lowville Saturday morning as the Lady Red Raiders hosted General Brown.

In the 2nd half, the score was 3-0 Lowville when Sid Brown's cross is headed home by Kaeden Miller, increasing the Lowville lead to 4-0. With the score 4-1, Hannah Freeman's corner kick is headed home by Peyton Cole. Lowville expands its lead to 5-1. Then it was Freeman denting the back of the net on the penalty kick to put the Lady Red Raiders on top 6-1. Lowville wins 7-1.

On the boys' side, a non-league contest in Carthage as the Comets hosted Central Valley Academy. C.V.A. gets on the board first when Keegan Case dents the back of the net. Score 1-0 C.V.A.

Carthage ties it up when Nate Deramus gets a foot on the throw in and rips yarn, knotting the score at 1. Carthage gets two more in to win 3-1.

In women's college soccer, SUNY Potsdam hosted SUNY Plattsburgh. Early in the 1st half, SUNY Plattsburgh takes the lead when Katie Mattot drills home a loose ball in front, making it 1-0. Five minutes later, Allison Seidman finishes the corner kick with the header, increasing the Plattsburgh lead to 2-0.

Potsdam scores in the 30th minute when Meaghan Sardi tickles twine, cutting the Potsdam lead in half. Plattsburgh wins 2-1.

St. Lawrence University played host to 20 other teams as the Ronald C. Hoffman Cross Country Invitational took place Saturday morning.

S.L.U. senior Dadley Ogetii would finish 1st with a time of 25 minutes 26.2 seconds, a little over 3 seconds ahead of Ivan Frantz of Rochester. As a team, St. Lawrence placed 2nd with 64 points. 27th ranked Ithaca would win the event. SUNY Oneonta was 3rd and Rochester finished 4th.

The women’s side also hosting the Ronald C. Hoffman Invitational. St. Lawrence’s Ashley Walker finished 4th and Catherine Kluchinski finished 9th, leading the Lady Saints to a 4th place finish out of 20 teams participating. Walker finished with a time of 22 minutes 52.2 seconds.
