Mississippi Power Day of Service

MLK Day is a day of remembrance and honor, but for those with Mississippi Power it’s also a perfect opportunity to give back.

Starting bright and early this morning, employees and their families came out to volunteer at West Elementary in Gulfport.

This effort is part of a larger scheme for Mississippi Power called the “Community Connection Volunteer Program” which encourages any type of volunteering and lending a hand in the community. Mississippi Power Coast Community Connection President Yaneria Lara said, “The goal behind this is to basically try and make an impact on the students that are going through the school so that way when they grow up and become part of our workforce they will continue to give back to the community and will kind of reflect back on this and continue that tradition that we have started here at Mississippi Power.”

The volunteers coordinated with the school staff for this beautification project.  The students and teachers come to this area for what they call their ‘brain breaks.’

Their work today included lots of landscaping, pressure washing, planting flowers, and much more.
