DETROIT (WXYZ) — U.S. Marshals need your help finding an alleged sexual predator police say cut off his tether and ran away after being released from prison.

Officials say 44-year-old Gregory Boykins was convicted of several violent crimes dating back to the 1990's, but it was when his crimes turned sexual in nature and started targeting children that he became one of Detroit's Most Wanted.

"He doesn’t want to be found, he doesn’t want to abide by the rules of society and that’s why we believe he’s such a danger to the community," said U.S. Marshal Rob Watson.

In 1995, Boykins was convicted of crimes involving guns, armed robbery and assault on police.

"He has a demonstrated history of violence and the fact now that he’s victimized a child means he’s capable of anything," Watson said.

Boykins was convicted of and served time for indecent exposure and criminal sexual conduct in 2013. When released from prison, he was required to register as a sex offender and wear a tether but cut it off.

"He cut his tether off and fled, the Michigan Department of Corrections has asked us to look for him because they believe he’s such a danger to the community," said Watson.

Right now, capturing Boykins is at the top of their Most Wanted list, according to the U.S. Marshals and the state Department of Corrections.

"We haven’t found a job for him, we haven’t found any means of employment, even going back several years, we absolutely believe that his family is helping him, his family knows wheres he’s at, and they’re helping him continue his life as a fugitive and evade the sex offender registry," Watson said.

Gregory Boykins is 5-feet 11-inches tall and weighs around 200 pounds. He has ties to the west side of Detroit, Oak Park and Flint.

"He has such a long history of violence, he’s capable of anything," Watson said. "And the fact you’re throwing children into the mix-ups, this guy is at the top of our list."
