'Run them pockets': What happened in Detroit overnight while you slept

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The start of summer is proving to keep Detroit police officers busy.

In addition to the three separate shootings Friday night that killed one man and injured five people, including a 4-year-old child on Detroit's west side, a few other crimes happened overnight into early Saturday in Detroit.

12:59 a.m. – Non-fatal shooting on Detroit's west side

A 54-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest on the 14500 block of Robson following an altercation, police say.

According to officers at the scene, the victim had been drinking alcohol and refused to give any details regarding the shooting.

Medics transported the man to a local hospital – no update on his condition.

The suspect is currently unknown, police say.

1:17 a.m. – Carjacking on Detroit's east side

A 56-year-old man was walking to his car when two suspects came up from behind him and said "Run them pockets," police say.

The victim gave the suspects the keys to his dark gray 2010 Cadillac SRX, and the suspects sped off from the scene.

Police released this preliminary description of the suspects:

Between 3:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. – Non-fatal shooting on Detroit's east side

A 38-year-old man was riding in the back seat passenger side of a gray 2018 Kia Optima, when several shots were fired, striking the man.

The incident happened in the area of E 7 Mile and Dequindre.

Other passengers in the vehicle did not see the shooter and had no idea where the shots came from, according to police.

The driver of the Kia Optima took the injured man to a local hospital and notified police.

There is no suspect in custody, police say.
