The number of people hospitalized with coronavirus and patients on ventilators in South Carolina increased Tuesday after the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported a decline in those numbers over the past several days. As of Tuesday 1,458 patients were hospital with COVID-19 and 355 COVID-19 patients were in the intensive care unit. Of those patients, 254 were ventilated.DHEC said 1,113 ICU beds were in use in the state and 321 were available. That is a utilization rate of 77.62%. The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC Monday statewide was 6,389 and the percent positive was 18.3%.As part of an ongoing effort to increase testing in underserved and rural communities across the state, DHEC is working with community partners to set up mobile testing clinics that bring testing to these communities. Currently, there are 133 mobile testing events scheduled through Sept. 29 with new testing events added regularly.
