CHEYENNE – A man accused of sexually assaulting his ex-wife pleaded not guilty to the charge Monday afternoon in Laramie County District Court.
Shawn Monson pleaded not guilty to a single count of first-degree sexual assault, and his trial is currently set to begin April 7.
The charge stems from an incident on Aug. 6 where the victim and Monson were riding her car, according to court documents. During the car ride, Monson told the victim he had a gun in his backpack that was sitting in the back seat of the car.
The two got into an argument during the car ride, and, at some point during the argument, Monson told the victim he wanted to have sex with her, according to court documents.
The victim told Monson “no” several times, but he continued to yell and told her to get in the passenger seat so he could have sex with her, according to court documents. The victim eventually got in the passenger seat after she parked the car because she was afraid of Monson and knew he had a gun.
After Monson had sex with her, the victim called 911, and Monson ran away. When officers arrived on scene, they took the victim to have a sexual assault examination at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, and they took DNA evidence from the car where the alleged assault occurred, according to court documents.
Also in Laramie County District Court on Monday:
Shawn Duffy pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault and battery with a drawn deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. His trial is scheduled for April 7.
On Oct. 15, Duffy was near Frontier Mall when he noticed a deposit box by the U.S. Bank near the mall, according to court documents. He waited around near the deposit box, because he thought mall employees would be there to make deposits after the mall closed.
A mall employee approached the box and was about to make a deposit when Duffy confronted her and told her to give him the bag of cash she was going to deposit, according to court documents. Duffy was pointing a silver gun, which was later determined to be a BB gun, in the store employee’s direction.
After the store employee threw the bag of cash in his direction, Duffy fled the scene. The store employee also called law enforcement after the incident.
Aaron Bridger pleaded not guilty to charges of applying pressure on the throat or neck and two counts of domestic battery. His trial is scheduled for April 7.
On Oct. 19, Bridger and his girlfriend were having a fight where Bridger called her several profanities, according to court documents. During the fight, Bridger put his then-girlfriend in a choke-hold to the point where she couldn’t breathe.
Afterward, Bridger punched her on the side of her head, which caused her jaw to start clicking, according to court documents. In another choking incident, Bridger laid on top of the victim and pushed her head into the bed, causing her to be unable to breathe.
Officers learned of the incident when they saw the victim on the street with a duffle bag and a pillow. When officers approached the victim, she told them about the alleged abuse, and officers noticed several bruises and injuries on her that corroborated her story.
When officers also interviewed Bridger, they noticed several fresh scratch marks on his face that the victim said she gave him when she was trying to fight him off, according to court documents.
