CHEYENNE – A longtime Cheyenne family wants to bring a sense of community to Pershing Plaza with its new coffee house, Rail Yard Coffee Haus and Eatery.
Mateo Salieb, with the assistance of his parents, Freddy and Adel Salieb, will offer a full coffee bar using Laramie-based H + S Coffee Roasters and Cheyenne Coffee Company, alongside a full salad bar and a variety of sandwiches.
“We do paninis and have been known for our Cuban sandwich in the area as well,” Mateo Salieb said. “We are just trying to give Cheyenne a little something they haven’t had before.”
The Saliebs once operated aDELI Café on Yellowstone Road, hoping to have a café of their own one day. The family moved to Cheyenne more than two decades ago, relocating from New York to raise their families in a less demanding environment.
“My dad was an Italian chef in New York, and my mom was a waitress in Manhattan, and that’s how they met,” Mateo Salieb said. “They always had a dream to open a café like this, and I hope I can help them basically follow that out and be supportive.”
Adel Salieb is a retired Union Pacific employee, inspiring the restaurant’s name and interior design.
“He has served the Union Pacific and this town,” Mateo Salieb said. “This town doesn’t have enough railroad themes, considering it built Cheyenne. We wanted to make this a place like home with an upscale feel that’s still accommodating to families. That’s why we have TVs, so the Carey Junior High parent waiting for her kid when the parking lot fills up has somewhere to go.”
The café, located at 1620 East Pershing Blvd., also will offer free Wi-Fi.
As a tribute to Adel Salieb’s hard work, the eatery will offer 10 percent off menu options to railroaders, first responders and military personnel.
“This shows the American dream,” Mateo Salieb said. “Starting as an immigrant from the Middle East and coming to America and making this whole life for him and his family.”
Rail Yard is expected to be open seven days a week beginning in early October, although that timeframe is tentative. The family is hiring for multiple positions now as well.
The Pershing Plaza renovation project began in earnest four years ago with the construction of Gold’s Gym, extending from 1600-1620 Pershing Blvd. and covering 75,000 square feet.
“This is a family business and something new to do for the town; it’s not something you’d find anywhere else,” Adel Salieb said.
