FFA teacher retires after 37 years of teaching

What was supposed to be a drive-by farewell ceremony turned into a gathering of friends, all to say goodbye to a retiring teacher.

Ty Berry has taught Future Farmers of America (FFA) in LCSD 1 for 37 years. The celebration was held at the School Farm in Cheyenne.

"When you teach 37 years, you just get hundreds and hundreds of kids to call friends," said Mr. Berry. "It's a pleasure to see them and very rewarding that they come and show up. Teaching an elective, you get kids who have a desire to be in your class. And I've worked with some of the best families. It's just been incredible."

Evan Smith, a student, said, "He just made everyone feel welcome. He just made the class fun."

Another student, Sarah Turner, said, "He's more than a teacher. He inspires us in and outside of the classroom, in and outside of our jackets, and he's just really someone we can count on."

And, Rebecca Schilt, another of Mr. Berry's students, said, "He was never afraid to have fun. He always made sure you were engaged and listening. His class was just really enjoyable."
