It was just over two years ago when heavy rain created a river in the streets of Ellicott City, Maryland.

Residents tweeted video as water rushed through the streets. It wasn’t long before the attention was trending on Twitter.

That happened again Wednesday night.

Storms carrying heavy rain swept across southern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. Central Pa. was spared serious damage, but residents of towns on both sides of the Patapsco River, Oella and Ellicott City took to Twitter to show video of their flooded streets.

Once again, it wasn’t long before the Ellicott City was trending.

Neal Augenstein, a reporter with WTOP tweeted that “flood alert sirens sounding in historic Ellicott City. Sirens mean get to higher ground.”

Augenstein tweeted that flooding in 2016 and 2018 led to the city getting the emergency alert sirens.

“They can be activated by Howard County officials, who are monitoring flood conditions, or when the National Weather Service activates flash flood warnings for Historic Ellicott City,” he tweeted.

That area of Maryland is under a flash flood warning until 9:15 p.m.
