Coroner IDs man killed by train in Fairview Twp.

A Cumberland County man died after a train struck him in Fairview Township on Sunday afternoon.

York County Coroner Pam Gay said in a news release that the man and a family member were fishing from a bridge near Hess Alley and Radesky Street when they were startled by an oncoming Norfolk Southern train about 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5.

She identified the victim as 25-year-old Ryan Amspacher, of Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County.

The two tried to run from the train, and Amspacher was struck by it, according to the release.

Amspacher was found about 40 feet down an embankment, Gay said. He died at the scene.

Rachel Bradshaw, a spokeswoman for Norfolk Southern, said the train was eastbound to Enola, Cumberland County, when it struck Amspacher. 

His cause of death was determined to be blunt-force trauma, with the manner accidental. There will not be an autopsy. 

Gay noted that the family member was taken to an area hospital before members of her office arrived, but she did not have information on his injuries.

Bradshaw confirmed that person was not struck by the train.

Norfolk Southern Police are investigating.
