Police: York domestic attack suspect captured in Fairview Twp.

Brandon Briggs

A Carlisle man wanted for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in York City to the point where she was incoherent when police found her, was arrested Wednesday morning.

York City Police said Brandon Michael Briggs, 28, assaulted the woman during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28.

The department said numerous law enforcement agencies were looking for the man, who was taken into custody a little before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31. That included the U.S. Marshals Service's fugitive task force, police said.

Fairview Township Police Chief Jason Loper said Briggs was in a home on Shauffnertown Road in the township and that Newberry Township Police and New Cumberland Police assisted Fairview Township officers in arresting him.

Authorities had been searching for Briggs since Sunday.

Briggs is charged with aggravated assault and strangulation, both felonies, and misdemeanors of recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, as well as a summary offense of harassment.

Court documents state Briggs and his girlfriend, 20, were arguing Sunday morning in a home in the 600 block of East Market Street.

During the argument, Briggs struck her with his hands and feet, and he choked her, police said.

While hiding, the woman yelled for help, and police arrived about 4:20 a.m.

The victim was not able to respond to officers' questions, so she was taken to York Hospital for treatment, police said.
