One of York’s biggest developments has just hit a milestone.
The highest beam has been put in place at Hudson Quarter, reaching the traditional ‘topping out’ of this major York development, located opposite York Railway Station.
And the views from the top are impressive, as our photos show.
Altogether 127 luxury apartments and 35,000 sq ft of office accommodation and commercial space are being delivered, as well as a landscaped courtyard and route through from the station to Toft Green.
The site is owned by Palace Capital, with Caddick Construction as main contractor of the £35 million build project.
A topping out celebration was held on the roof of one of the four buildings on the site. The Bishop of Beverley Glyn Webster performed the ceremony, alongside representatives of the developer and construction firm marking the completion of the structure of the development.
Great progress
Chief Executive of Palace Capital Neil Sinclair said: “This is an exciting stage in the construction of an iconic development for York.
“The ‘topping out’ is a significant milestone, as we continue to make great progress on the site, which is on schedule to be completed by the end of next year, as planned.
“Interest in both the offices and apartments has far exceeded our expectations.”
.@hudsonquarter is really taking shape now with all four blocks out of the ground.
The project for client @Palace_Capital consists of the construction of three concrete-framed residential blocks and a steel-framed Grade-A office space in a fourth building. #loveconstruction pic.twitter.com/yX1jROxB0u

Andrew Murray, managing director of Caddick Construction said it had proved to be a rewarding and enjoyable project. He added:
-
This was a dormant site but with so much potential.
It now has a very bright future bringing much-needed homes, office and commercial space into the heart of York’s city centre.
The fact it is right next to York Railway Station also gives it incredibly strong sustainability credentials.
Bishop of Beverley Glyn Webster said: “I was delighted to be invited to perform this ceremony and to mark a landmark point in this exciting development. It’s wonderful to see the progress being made.”
Hudson Quarter is due to complete by the end of 2021, with occupation expected in early 2021.
The office space is being marketed by joint agents JLL and Sanderson Weatherall, while the apartments are being marketed by Hudson Moody and Carter Jonas as joint residential agents.
