YORK is set to enjoy even milder weather later this week, with temperatures forecast to rise as high as 16C by Friday.

The mild weather is being brought to the UK on southerly winds from as far away as the Canary Islands.

BBC Weather in association with MeteoGroup says York will see a maximum of 'only' 10C today amid sunny intervals, with rain arriving this evening.

Forecasters say tomorrow will be cloudy and 13C, but with temperatures rising to 15C on Thursday should see 15C with sunny intervals and peaking as high as 16C, or 60 F, on Friday.

Further mild weather and sunshine is expected next weekend.

The Met Office is expecting slightly lower temperatures, with a maximum of 13C on Friday, but this is still extraordinarily mild for February and comes as the first anniversary approaches for the arrival of the 'Beast from the East' last February, which brought snow and sub-zero temperatures to York.
