Three more coronavirus patients have died at Leeds hospitals

Figures released by NHS England on Friday, May 29 record three new deaths under the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

This data reflects deaths from the latest reporting period which is 5pm on Wednesday, May 27 to 5pm on Thursday, May 28.

One patient died on Monday, May 25 while two patients died on Tuesday, May 26.

It follows a four-day reporting period where no new Covid-19 deaths were recorded in the city's hospitals.

The rise of three deaths brings the total number of coronavirus patients to die at hospital in Leeds to 305.

It's the highest number recorded by any NHS hospital trust in Yorkshire, followed by Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust with 268 Covid-19 deaths and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with 265 deaths.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.
