Sheridan, Tri-Valley headline Backwoods 2-miler

THORNVILLE - Sheridan's William Wilke and Tri-Valley's Ryan Meadows provided a preview of the Muskingum Valley League meet coming up in less than two weeks.

Wilke came across first in a time of 9:43 and Meadows took second in 9:55, pacing the varsity boys race at the Sheridan Backwoods 2-miler on Wednesday.

The Generals were fifth with 183 points, as Lance Grosse was 29th (10:42), Job Covey 30th (10:42) and Levi Sweazy 34th (10:47).

Tri-Valley was 11th (314), John Glenn 12th (331), New Lex 20th (568) and Crooksville 26th (626) to round out area boys teams.

Other top area finishers included John Glenn's Chris Tooms in 23rd (10:35) and Vince Griffin in 41st (10:55), Tri-Valley's Nathan Sauerbrey in 32nd (10:47) and Ty Shawger in 66th (11:16), Crooksville's Lee Osborn in 65th (11:16) and Lee Osborn in 71st (11:22) and New Lex's Darek Pyle in 73rd (11:23), Caden Gibson in 90th (11:31) and Ben Groves in 137th (12:14).

Sheridan came in seventh (224), Tri-Valley 10th (286), John Glenn 14th (314), New Lex 17th (440) and Philo 21st (639) in the girls race.

John Glenn's Grace Lawrence was 14th (12:25.3), Crooksville's Savannah Moorehead 15th (12:25.4) and New Lexington's Sydney Hambel 16th (12:27), while Jensen Wolfe placed 27th (12:58), Katelyn Heath 30th (13:00) and Addison Smith 36th (13:08) to lead the Generals.

Tri-Valley's Josey Johnson was 40th (13:17) and Hainsley Hatfield 55th (13:31); John Glenn's Sydney Johnson came in 52nd (13:27); Jori Kinsel was 113th (15:01.2) and Jaylyn Shirkey 114th (15:01.4) for New Lexington; and Philo's Darbi Henderson was 143rd (15:37) to highlight other runners.

In the open races, Morgan's Ben Heigley came in 14th (11:25) and Hunter Hill 28th (11:53) to lead area boys, and Kylea Holloway, also from the Raiders, led area girls in seventh (13:33) and teammate Emily Pinkerton was 15th (14:00).

The Sheridan middle school boys won a team title, led by Raine Rodich in second (11:21) and Vann Emmert in eighth (11:43), while the girls came in sixth with Jenna Stewart finishing seventh (13:25) to lead the team.

West Muskingum's Jacob Agin was sixth (11:32) in the middle school boys race and Tri-Valley's Taylor Crozier came in third (12:53) in the middle school girls race.

Boys Golf

New Lex ninth at Division II District: The Panthers totaled 375 to come in ninth out of 10 teams in the district tournament at Crown Hill.

Luken Hoffman tied for 14th overall and shot 87 to lead New Lex, while Kaden Foraker carded a 91, Connor Metzger posted a 98 and Blake Elliott had a 99 for the scoring. Brody Agriesti also had 102.

Chillicothe Unioto won with 342 to earn the state berth.

Girls Golf

Rosecrans' Milam competes in district: Rosecrans sophomore Gracie Milam ended the season strong, shooting 91 to tie for 13th in the Division II district tournament at Cambridge Country Club.

Minerva's Jordan VanMeter was the medalist and state qualifier with a round of 75.

Girls Soccer

John Glenn 12, Philo 2: The visiting Muskies clinched their fifth straight Muskingum Valley League title with a road win over the Electrics.

Tri-Valley 5, West Muskingum 1: Claire Martin scored a pair of goals to lead the Scotties in a home victory.

Karsen Ross also had a goal for Tri-Valley, but no other information was available.

College Soccer

Muskingum men 3, Chatham 0: Bailey Adams scored the first of three second-half goals in the Muskies' victory.

Omar Lahbiki and Sujit Khatiwoda also had goals for the Muskies (7-2-1).
