NEW CONCORD - John Glenn understood the challenge ahead on Saturday.

The host Muskies needed a victory over Sheridan to share the Muskingum Valley League title.

Behind the effort at the net, John Glenn (18-4, 15-1) achieved its goal with a victory in five sets, 23-25, 25-13, 25-22, 24-26, 15-13.

Abigail Walker headlined the Muskies' performance with 24 kills, 10 digs, nine blocks and three aces. Abby Dickson added 52 assists, eight digs, two aces and a block; Lyndi Slack 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks; Kenzie Knellinger 12 kills and three blocks; Madelyn Adkins 15 digs and three aces; Ashlyn Yarger nine kills, 10 digs, two blocks and an ace; and Layni Gillespie eight digs and three aces.

The Generals (20-2, 15-1) were led by Brooklyn Heller with 16 kills and 14 digs; Grace Conrad 45 assists, 10 digs and 100-percent serving; Faith Stinson 14 kills, nine digs and seven blocks; Erin Schultz five kills and five blocks; and Julia Finck 33 digs and 100-percent serving.

Both teams open tournament play at 6 p.m. Wednesday. John Glenn hosts the winner of Morgan and Zanesville, while Sheridan welcomes the winner of Hillsboro and Logan Elm.

Rosecrans 25, 25, 25, Grove City Christian 14, 20, 14: Carly Caldwell collected 14 kills, 20 digs and a block and Kelly Goggin set up 25 assists with six digs, as the Bishops (10-12, 6-6) earned a Mid-State League win.

Jerzie Johnson added six kills, three aces and three digs, Jenna McLaughlin was 100-percent serving with two aces and 1.5 blocks, Lily McLaughlin chipped in eight kills, seven digs and 1.5 blocks and Sam Rush served four aces with 11 digs in the winning effort.

Girls Soccer

Division III

Rosecrans 12, Harrison Central 0: Alisa Bugglin scored a hat trick, as the second-seeded Bishops scored seven times in the first half in a shutout of 10th seed Harrison Central in the sectional opener.

Rosecrans hosts ninth seed Steubenville Central Catholic at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the sectional title.

Grace Wilson also scored twice, Parker Farrell chipped in two goals and two assists, Carly Dady scored a goal with an assist, Kailey Zemba tallied a goal and dished out four assists, Chloe Zemba, Caitlyn Wilson and Korynn Porter had a goal each and Jenna McLaughlin and Lily McLaughlin each had an assist in the win.

Cross Country

Zanesville's Taylor competes at ECOL: Zanesville senior Brittany Taylor came in 49th (25:47) out of 72 runners in the ECOL meet at Cambridge.

Boys Soccer

Morgan 7, Zanesville 3: The Raiders exploded for five goals in the second half after the game was tied at 2 at the half.

Junior Hayden Paige tied the school record for most points in a season at 53 (17 goals, 19 assists) after having two goals and two assists for Morgan.

Junior Carver Myers also had a hat trick, while senior Connor Counterman and sophomore Chase McGill both contributed a goal for the Raiders.

No leaders were available for Zanesville.
