NAIROBI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge remains guarded on his next assault after breaking the two-hour barrier in Vienna, Austria on Saturday, though the 34-year-old is optimistic of returning to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

His management will discuss the next race for Kipchoge, who takes a deserved rest to recover after becoming the first man to run the marathon in less than two hours, clocking 1:59.40.

His coach Patrick Sang confirmed that Kipchoge will certainly have one more marathon before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

However, on where he will be running, Sang says it is down to his management team to decide after discussing it with the Olympic champion.

"He has inspired all of us to stretch our limits and do more than we think we can do. I said to him, 'Congratulations, you have done it, you have made history'," said Sang.

In 2012, Kipchoge failed to make Kenya's team to the London Olympic Games, where he had hoped to win gold in the 5,000m, which would have been an improvement from his silver medals from Beijing in 2008.

That failure left Kipchoge upset, leading him to take on the marathon, before mastering and perfecting it.

"Life is full of bumps, never give up. Tomorrow's laughter is better than today's," Kipchoge said in 2018.
